Save Time and Care For Your Afro

Do a treatment

Whether you’re binging a show, reading a book or working from home, you can maximise your time by applying a pre-poo or a conditioning treatment whilst doing your activity. Apply your treatment and put on a shower cap and let the products work their magic. You can even hide your shower cap under a hat if you want to have a quick dash to the shops.

Wash your hair in sections

I know time may not always be on your side so it would be easier to just wash your hair at once and get about your business. Sectioning your hair before you wash your hair will not only help cut down on post-wash detangling time but it will ensure that you hair is washed properly and is squeaky clean. Start off by splitting your hair into four sections (more if your hair is thicker) and create large twists. Gently wash each section and re-twist, before applying your conditioner and finger detangling. Trust me, its not as long as you think.

Keep that hair moisturised

Playing with your afro is all fun and games until you realise it feels dry and brittle and now you have to stop. Dry hair makes your hair more susceptible to breakage and single strand knots, which can add time to your wash day and styling process. An easy way to make moisture your friend is by layering your hair products using the Liquid, Oil and Cream method.

Start with a liquid moisturizing spray followed by a hair oil that will seal the cuticles and lastly a moisturizing cream.

Wear a Bonnet or Durag to bed

A simple way to protect your protective hairstyle and reduce manipulation or friction is to wear a satin-lined bonnet to sleep. The satin will help your hair retain moisture and protect your hair from friction while you’re sleeping. Not to mention, if there’s less friction your hairstyle will look cuter for longer, which means you can sleep in a little longer in the mornings! I don’t know about you but another cute bonnet is already on my shopping list.

Use a microfibre towel

Avoid the breakage and the frizz by using a micro-fibre towel. They’re quick drying so they can help quicken your wash day.

Protective style your hair

Keep hair manipulation down and the vulnerable ends of your hair tucked away by carrying hairstyles like cornrows, braids or twist. They make for practical protective hairstyles that can be worn all week which means your hair has less chance of getting tangled or breaking.
